James Carville made an unusual statement yesterday. He thinks that Al Gore should consider being vice president again, if asked by Senator Obama.
Al Gore has already said that he would never consider any other position than president ever again. Why would a man like Gore, who has completely transcended public office and become almost a folk hero, ever consider being an underling ever again?
Because he is a policy wonk. Because he knows how to get things done. Because he knows what he is talking about.
I could see him doing any number of jobs within the Obama administration, including Secretary of Energy. The real question is, why not? I think the answer is that he is a man before his time, and his time already passed. He is doing fine without us, but our country and its people will never know what we may have achieved with him leading us in the last seven and half years. You can be damn sure that it would be a completely different world.

Nice piece. I could not agree with you more. The world would be a far safer place and the US would still be a leader in the eyes of most of the world if he would have been in office.
