
The unfortunate thing about the U.S.'s involvement in the war in Iraq and the subsequent human rights violations at Abu Ghraib, besides the obvious, is that we now have absolutely no moral authority in the Tibet-China struggle. You know we are in serious trouble when Germany actually has MUCH more moral authority on human rights!
The U.S. definitely should be considering skipping these Olympic games, if not because of the ongoing struggle to free Tibet from communist Chinese rule, simply to keep our athletes safe from the dangerously polluted air in Beijing.
As China gets ready to make its entrance onto the world stage for the Olympic Games this summer, they should not be enabled by the silence of the world's largest nations. China made secret promises to the Olympic committee about its human rights concessions, and even though we don't know what they are, it certainly does not seem that the promises are coming true.
