The Iraq war is becoming a subject of importance on the campaign trail once again. Since the tragic 4,000 troop death milestone hit the news and more suicide bombers hit the streets of Baghdad, Americans have suddenly realized that just because the war is out of sight, and temporarily off the front pages, it does not mean that they can forget it is there. In fact, more people are connecting the dots to realize that the U.S. would have a lot more cash on hand if we weren't spending it all on this godforsaken war.
The convention wisdom is that firing up the ol' war machine helps the economic engines churn on all pistons. This time, though, the only people getting rich are Bush and Cheney's pals with their fat no-bid contracts. The rest of us poor schlubs are just getting the shaft. And the 4,000 that aren't coming back are NOT being honored by our government. To honor their service, we should be putting a pull-out plan in place and getting our own house in order.
