My alma mater, Drake University, hosted a debate that was aired live on ABC's This Week With George Stephanopoulos. Never mind that is was at the un-godly hour of 8 a.m...the real story was there was no story. The white guys in suits are all the same to me. Out of touch with reality.
Most striking was John McCain's outrageous assessment that we are "winning the war on the ground" and "making progress politically." WOW. He's been hittin' the crack pipe pretty hard. Defense Secretary Gates was making a much more sober assertion on Tim Russert's show at about the same time.
Giuliani was like a pull-toy with a broken part, saying "islamic terrorism" so many times I thought that springs were going to pop out of his head.
I was amused to watch Mitt Romney squirm under examination by his fellow candidates on the issue of his total flip-flop on abortion. If he thinks that evangelical christian conservatives are going to buy that argument, he's not done his homework. He deserves every second of scrutiny he's getting, since he's quite possibly the biggest lying fake in the race.
